English IV - HONORS B
(ENGIV-H-B)

This year, we will think, read, write, discuss, present, and revise our ideas about the representation of power in literature, particularly as manifested through race, class, gender, and space. We will explore such questions as: How do we define the self? How does our definition of self affect our relationships with and constructions of others? In this year-long course, we will examine the connection between the portrayal of race and attitudes towards identity. We will also investigate various perspectives on the American wilderness, land and landowning, the urban experience, and physical and literary architecture.
